This NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) will be held at the Hotel Terminal,
in Santa Maria di Leuca (Lecce, Italy) from 6 to 10 October 2008.

The workshop overall goals are to contribute to:

  1. An improved communication between the weather/climate and the energy sectors and
  2. An overall improved use of weather/climate information for energy provision.

IMPORTANT DATES:

  • 25 August 2008 - Deadline for abstract submission
  • 29 August 2008 - Notification of acceptance
  • 5 October 2008 - Arrival and registration
  • 6-10 October 2008 - ARW takes place

The workshop will have about 20 invited speakers (see workshop programme). A number of additional talks will be allocated to specialists through an abstract-based selection. Specialists who wish to contribute to the workshop discussion and recommendations are also welcome to apply (the abstract would be replaced by an expression of interest in this case). The maximum number of participants to the workshop will be 45.

Abstracts should be submitted via email to the ARW Director, Alberto Troccoli (alt /at\ mail.nerc-essc.ac.uk), by the 25 August 2008, preferably in pdf or text format. Please write "Abstract submission for NATO ARW" or "Expression of interest for NATO ARW" as subject to your email and state clearly, in the body of the email, title of your contribution, your name and contact details, including email address and a telephone number. In addition to your contact details please include also where your expertise lies, which of the workshop objectives you are mostly interested in and to which working group theme you would like to contribute. Abstracts should be about 400 words long (expressions of interest may be shorter). Notification of acceptance will be made by 29 August 2008.

You will have to budget for your own travel (including transfers). However, airport transfers may be arranged through the Workshop secretary, Mrs Elena Bertocco (elena_bertocco /at\ onetel.com).
